What is Tenement Rate?
A tenement rate is a tax or fee that is charged and collected by a local government authority on a developed and occupied property. It is a source of revenue for the local government authority.
Tenement Rate derives its legitimacy from provisions of
Section 1(j) of the 4th Schedule of the 1999 Constitution as amended

Any Property owned and occupied by retirees from Federal, State, Local Government Establishments, and private organizations, domiciled in Any Property owned and occupied by retirees from Federal, State, Local Government Establishments, and private organizations, domiciled in the Local Council or by any person that has attained the age of sixty (60) years and has ceased to be actively engaged in any activity of business for remuneration is now exempted from paying Tenement Rate.
